Tri Deltas are passionate about serving others.
We remain dedicated to three aspects of philanthropy: sisters helping sisters through Tri Delta’s Foundation, our commitment to changing the way the world treats and defeats childhood cancer through our work with local and regional children’s hospitals and pediatric cancer initiatives and through our national partnership with St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

The Tri Delta Foundation
The South Bay Alumnae Chapter supports Foundation programs that assist alumnae.
- Alumnae Crescent Fund:The Crescent Fund provides emergency assistance to Tri Deltas facing unforeseen financial crisis — such as unexpected medical bills, a job loss or natural disaster. By providing sisters in need with a financial grant, the Foundation ensures that Tri Delta’s members are taken care of throughout their lives. Applications are accepted year-round.
- The Linda Garrett Whitson Graduate Scholarship is open to all Tri Deltas, but gives preference to those who were collegiate members at Duke, USC, CSULB, Pepperdine and LMU.
Panhellenic Alumnae South Bay Association ScholarshipApplications are due each year in the spring.
- High School Scholarship: Scholarships shall be awarded annually to female graduates of high schools in the South Bay area who plan to attend a four-year institution where National Panhellenic Conference sororities (NPC) are established. The applicant must be a resident of the South Bay. The applicant must meet the minimum scholarship requirement of a 3.5 grade point average. The applicant will be judged on the basis of academic excellence, character, participation in school and community/cultural activities, and financial need.
- University Scholarship: Applicants must be from the South Bay of Southern California. An undergraduate applicant must be an active, dues paying member-in-good-standing of a National Panhellenic Conference sorority and who is also a graduate of a South Bay area high school, or attending a university in the South Bay (i.e., CSU Dominquez Hills).A graduate applicant must be a member-in-good-standing of the Los Angeles-South Bay alumnae chapter of her National Panhellenic sorority.
Long Beach Ronald McDonald HouseA "home away from home” for families with critically-ill children. They provide a place to stay, a source of comfort and care, and a chance to focus all of their energies on the one thing that matters most of all: their child. Through gifts of time, talent and financial support, they are open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, for the families of children facing critical, often life-threatening, illnesses.
Each January, the South Bay Alumnae Chapter participates in Delta Love Day established by the Southern California Alumnae Council of Delta Delta Delta which encourages alumnae and collegiate chapters to support a local Ronald McDonald House. This activity correlates to our national Children's Cancer Charities philanthropy by supporting families whose children have cancer or other serious illnesses.
We support our closest House which is in Long Beach by purchasing and donating items from their pantry wish list including non-perishable food items, snacks, plates, etc.
Children's Hospital Los Angeles/SleighbellThe
Cancer and Blood Disease Institute at Children's Hospital Los Angeles is one of the largest and most influential members of the Children’s Oncology Group, a cooperative of 237 of the country’s most prestigious pediatric research centers.
Benefiting Hematology / Oncology ResearchTri Deltas first began donating to Children's Hospital Los Angeles in 1947. In 1951, funds were dedicated to hematology research - these would be the first funds available for this important research, and allowed the department to remain open. Today, hematology and oncology research at Children's Hospital Los Angeles is recognized worldwide. Tri Deltas are proud to have made this program possible. Based on the success of this philanthropic effort, at the 1974 Tri Delta National Convention, it was decided that the national philanthropy would be Children's Cancer Charities. Several members of South Bay Alumnae have been Sleighbell Presidents and Board Members.
Jean Hunt Gaines Leadership Scholarship by SCACA scholarship fund named after Past National President and Southern California alumna Jean Hunt Gaines, UCLA, was created by the Southern California Alumnae Council of Delta Delta Delta in 2007. This scholarship recognizes an outstanding collegian from one of the Southern California collegiate chapters for her dedication to her chapter and demonstration of leadership skills. The scholarship is financed by donations from alumnae members and alumnae chapters. The scholarship is presented yearly with the amount determined by SCAC.
